Royal Designs began from the most humble and heartfelt of places, rooted in a surprising gift given to me, Nosakhere Papa Soul. My very first experience with ethnic jewelry was a beautiful necklace, a thoughtful gesture from a truly captivating queen. At that time, I was just a penniless, perhaps a bit scrubby, but (I hoped) handsome teenager. I was utterly charmed that someone like her would even notice me. What those hazel bronze, sparkling eyes saw in me back then was entirely a mystery, but I adored the gesture, the thoughtfulness, and the unique beauty of her gift. Though that cherished necklace was later broken in a juvenile rivalry, the profound impression of her unforgettable gift unexpectedly shaped my understanding of such handcrafted treasures.
